Q: What are your academic qualifications and professional roles?

 

A: I have completed a degree in Clinical Medicine with Distinctions, along with an intercalated Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education with Merit. Subsequently, I undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, a taught Master of Philosophy Degree in Public Health with Epidemiology, and a Research Medical Doctorate in Nutrition and Cardiovascular Prevention. I am proud to have achieved relevant professional body memberships/fellowships through competency assessment.

 

Throughout my postgraduate training spanning over a decade, I have maintained a continued specialist interest in nutrition within hospital and public health medicine. I have received training in quantitative and qualitative research methods across several academic domains. My work in the field has led to significant accomplishments, including the Editorship of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical/Healthcare Research (2016) and the Editorship of the Elsevier Textbook of Essentials of Nutrition in Medicine (2023). I have also undergone formal training in management and leadership through organisations such as the British Medical Association and the Institute of Leadership and Management, as well as social entrepreneurship through Innovate UK.

 

Against the backdrop of a healthcare sciences background, over the past decade I have been increasingly interdisciplinary and have led diverse teams across six continents from management t leadership as well as academic and operational roles.

 

Q: What is your leadership coaching approach?

 

A: My leadership coaching approach is inclusive, participatory, and transformative. I believe in a distributive model of leadership that recognises the unique strengths and diversity that each individual brings to a team. Through coaching, I aim to help individuals continuously evolve and refine their leadership capabilities, positively impacting collective professional performance and fulfilment. I offer various coaching formats, including one-to-one mentoring, group sessions on mindfulness in leadership, group-level training, and motivational speaking to larger audiences. Together, we embark on a personalised journey aligned with specific needs and objectives to help individuals advance their leadership abilities.

 

Q: What is your educational and teaching background?

 

A: With over 20 years of experience, I have had the privilege of teaching and supervising students from various prestigious universities worldwide. I have taught and mentored students from institutions such as the University of Cambridge, University of East Anglia, Ulster University, University of Parma, University of Dundee, University of Wollongong, University of Waterloo, and Imperial College London. My expertise lies in preventative medicine, applied human nutrition, cardiovascular disease prevention, health systems education, health research methods, and global food and nutrition security. I have also contributed to and edited several books in the field. Whether in-person, online, or in a hybrid format, I am dedicated to helping undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, and vocational learners achieve their academic goals. My teaching approach is personable and tailored to individual needs, fostering an interactive learning environment that encourages participation and collaboration.

 

Q: What topics do you cover in my public speaking engagements?

 

A: I have been invited to speak at conferences, workshops, and congresses in over 40 countries. My speaking engagements cover many topics that fall within my areas of expertise and interest. These include applied human nutrition, global food security, and interdisciplinary leadership for addressing global challenges. I take pride in conveying critical messages throughout my talks while maintaining a personal and enjoyable style. I appreciate the value of interactive elements and encourage questions and discussions to engage with the audience effectively. I aim to deliver informative and inspiring talks focused on the event's objectives and motivate and energise attendees.

A: I can deliver coaching sessions in various ways to accommodate different preferences and needs. Here are some of how I can provide coaching:

1. One-to-One Mentoring: This format involves personalised coaching sessions explicitly tailored to the individual. I can provide focused guidance, support, and feedback through one-on-one mentoring to help individuals enhance their leadership skills and achieve their goals.

2. Group Sessions on Mindfulness in Leadership: Group sessions allow individuals to learn and grow together. These sessions can focus on cultivating mindfulness practices in leadership, fostering self-awareness, resilience, and effective decision-making within a supportive group setting.

3. Group Level Training: Group training sessions can be conducted to enhance leadership capabilities within a team or organisation. To strengthen collective performance and collaboration, these sessions can cover various leadership topics, such as communication, team dynamics, conflict resolution, and strategic thinking.

4. Motivational Speaking to Larger Audiences: I am experienced in delivering engaging and inspiring keynote speeches and presentations to larger audiences. To motivate and energise participants, these talks can cover various topics, such as applied human nutrition, global food security, and interdisciplinary leadership.
